In a well-lit room, escaping the darkness that covered Lagos, Uche lay sprawled on the couch, half her braids already loose, picking at her popcorn without thinking. Netflix was playing something she wasn’t really watching, just noise to keep the room from feeling empty.
Her thumb drifted lazily across her phone screen.
Then she stopped.
A flyer popped up.
“₦500 million.”
Uche muttered. Her eyebrow lifted slowly… then shot up completely.
“Five hundred million?” she said out loud, as if the walls needed to hear it too. In one sharp movement, she sat up straight—sleep gone, boredom gone, everything gone.
Money like that could change a person’s whole story.
“Babe, come and see—free moneyyy!” Uche called out, her voice echoing from the living room to the kitchen. Chioma, busy stirring a pot, perked up at the word money, as if someone had just announced a national award. She dashed out, her curiosity impossible to contain.
“See this!” Uche exclaimed, waving her phone like a trophy. “The Real Lagos Baddie! You just stay in a big house, show off your lifestyle, win people’s hearts, and go home with a whopping 500 million naira!”
“That’s… that much? Are you sure it’s real?” Chioma asked, squinting at the screen.
“They’re real! I’ve been seeing it all over the internet. Remember that girl we met at the salon last week? She mentioned something similar!”
“Ohhh yeah, now I remember,” Chioma said, fully recalling the conversation.
“I’ll just check it out properly, see if it’s legit,” Uche replied.
“If it’s real we mount o,” Chioma said jokingly. “We’ll just pretend we don’t know each other.” She said this while dragging her ear as if warning a child.
“Before nko? Who knows you?” Uche shot back with a laugh. They both burst into giggles.
“But wait, we need a plan,” Chioma continued, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “We’ll be sworn enemies on camera, play it smart, and one of us grabs the money. Then we share.”
“Exactly! You’re thinking!” Uche said, raising her hand and twirling in playful excitement.
The night felt like an answered prayer for both girls. Uncertainty hovered, yes, but money—big money—was the goal, and they were ready to do whatever it took to get it.

On the other side of Lagos, where luxury defines life, Ikoyi, Chineye lounged on her sofa, scrolling her phone. Her thoughts drifted to plans of how she would spend the 500 million naira.
“500 million,” she muttered, a sly smile forming. “I could buy more bone straight, but honestly, money isn’t the goal. This show… it’s the real deal for me.”
For Chineye, it wasn’t just about the cash. It was about the spotlight, showcasing her beauty, the elegance her mother had passed down. Her body, her face, every inch of her screamed perfection. God damn it, Chinyere was a beauty and a soft girl ambassador.

Morning broke in Apapa, and Amaka was rushing to catch a cab to work. As she hurried down the street, a man lunged, snatching her bag. Reflexively, she grabbed his wrist.
“You dey craze? You think I be omo mummy or something? I don warn you people! You see me, you run?” she shouted, yanking her bag back.
“Mama, I dey sorry, free me nau!” the man pleaded.
“Free you? I fit kill you for here!” Amaka hissed, releasing her grip, letting him scurry off empty-handed.
Her morning, though shaken, eventually steadied as she found a cab waiting. By the time she got to the office, the chaos of the streets felt miles away. Inside, her day was the usual grind—emails, deadlines, and a controlling madam making sure everyone stayed on their toes.
Scrolling through her phone during a rare free moment, Amaka stumbled across an advertisement. Her heart skipped. This—this—was her escape route, her ticket to the life she had been dreaming of.
