A New Story. A New Genre. A Different Kind of Love.
I’m about to venture into a genre I haven’t written in before.
Psychological Romance / Drama.
And this time, I’m taking on themes that are much heavier and more complex than what I usually explore:
Mental Health. Love. Recovery. Family. Reality vs. Perception.
I’m starting this story on my blog—not because it is a smaller story, but because I want to give myself room to learn, experiment, make mistakes, and grow before taking this kind of story to a much bigger platform.
Meet Chioma.
She is 22.
She has just gained admission into university. She loves books, especially romance novels. She has a family that loves her and an ordinary life ahead of her.
Until one day, something changes.
She begins seeing things other people can’t see.
Hearing voices other people can’t hear.
And slowly, the line between what is happening and what she believes is happening begins to disappear.
Then she meets a psychiatrist.
A man who is supposed to help her find her way back to reality.
Instead, she falls in love with him.
But here’s the question I want this story to explore:
When someone is struggling to distinguish reality from perception, how do they know which feelings they can trust?
And perhaps even more importantly—
Can someone living with a mental illness still experience genuine love?
This story isn’t about portraying mental illness as something frightening or making a character’s condition the entirety of who she is.
It’s about a young woman trying to understand herself, her mind, her relationships, and the world around her.
It’s about family.
It’s about recovery.
It’s about the things we don’t always understand about mental health.
And yes…
It’s also a love story.
But not a simple one.
There will be moments when you’ll question what is real.
There will be moments when you won’t know whether to believe Chioma—or the people around her.
There will be moments when even love becomes difficult to understand.
I’m writing this story to learn.
I’m writing it to challenge myself.
And I’m writing it because sometimes the stories we are most afraid to attempt are the ones that teach us the most.
So…
Welcome to Chioma’s world.
Just be careful.
Because in her world, not everything you see is necessarily real.
And not every feeling is as easy to explain as it seems.
Watch out for a complicated story—but one that I hope will leave you thinking, feeling, and ultimately satisfied.
The journey begins on the blog.
I’m all sat for this.
