5 Things to Know Before You Start Writing

Here are five tip from storiesnseries team to help you on your writing journey

  1. Writing is a marathon, not a sprint.
    Don’t expect to finish your masterpiece in one sitting. Great stories take time, patience, and persistence. Give yourself permission to write badly at first, you can always fix it later.
  2. Know your characters like real people.
    Before your pen touches paper (or fingers hit the keyboard), ask yourself: Who are they? What do they want? What scares them? The more real they feel to you, the more real they’ll feel to your readers.
  3. Read to write better.
    You can’t pour from an empty cup. Reading widely, novels, poetry, short stories (teaches you structure, style, and voice). Inspiration often comes disguised as someone else’s words.
  4. Don’t chase perfection.
    The first draft is for your eyes only. Editing comes later. If you wait to write until it’s “perfect,” you’ll never start. Remember: done is better than perfect.
  5. Writing is for YOU first, readers second.
    Yes, you want people to love your work, but your story has to feel alive to you first. If you’re not invested, readers will sense it. Write because you have something to say then the audience will follow.
